SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–California-Today, Baron & Budd filed two lawsuits on behalf of Los
Angeles County and the City of Malibu against Southern California Edison
and Edison International (“SCE”) as an important step towards recovery
from the devastating Woolsey Fire, which destroyed 1,500 buildings,
damaged another 341 buildings, and killed 3 people. The blaze, which
started November 8, 2018, consumed over 96,000 acres, including the
overwhelming majority of the Malibu community. Malibu and the County
have obtained evidence that indicates SCE is responsible for the
fire—including SCE equipment at the suspected area of origin.

The City of Malibu has incurred fire suppression costs, emergency
response and recovery efforts, infrastructure damages, injury to natural
resources, loss of tax revenue, and other significant public losses.

The lawsuits were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, and are expected
to be coordinated into JCCP 5000, before Judge Highberger. The case
number for Los Angeles County is 19STCV14376, and the case number for
the City of Malibu is 19STCV14377.

“Baron & Budd is proud to represent Los Angeles County and the City of
Malibu in their efforts to support and rebuild their communities,” said
Baron & Budd attorney John Fiske, “these communities rely on important
public infrastructure and resources for safety, transportation, and
critical needs. The Woolsey Fire consumed many millions of dollars of
important taxpayers resources.”
