Samaritan Ministries nominated the company for demonstrating a strong
commitment to serving the homeless and hungry members of the community
in a tangible way

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/HanesForGood?src=hash” target=”_blank”gt;#HanesForGoodlt;/agt;–HanesBrands’ volunteers are changing the future, one life at a time.

The efforts of HanesBrands
and its employees earned the company a 2019
Forsyth County Governor’s Volunteer Award
for making a significant
contribution to its hometown community. Samaritan
Ministries
, a volunteer-based organization that operates a soup
kitchen, shelter and other programs to support those living homeless
and/or hungry in Forsyth County, nominated Hanes for the award in the
corporate category.

“Hanes’ volunteers make an invaluable contribution to Samaritan
Ministries,” said Sonjia Kurosky, the agency’s executive director.
“Whether serving on our board of directors or scrubbing pots and pans in
our soup kitchen, the company’s volunteers are eager to help and have
never hesitated to ask if there was more they could do. And we are very
grateful for their enthusiastic partnership and strong dedication to
serving our guests.”

During 2018, company employees, including members of its leadership
team, volunteered more than 350 hours at Samaritan Ministries. Along
with a monthly shift preparing and serving lunch in the soup kitchen,
employees also organized several days of service to distribute socks,
underwear and other apparel to more than 500 people.

“It is such an honor for our company and employees to win the 2019
Forsyth County Governor’s Volunteer Award,” said Chris Fox, HanesBrands’
vice president of corporate social responsibility. “We are very proud to
support Samaritan Ministries’ mission to provide food, shelter and hope
to those who need it most in our community.

“We are also very fortunate to work for an organization that fosters and
exemplifies good citizenship,” he continued. “Employees are encouraged
to ‘do lunch’ together by volunteering to serve others, and the company
and its leadership team pitches in to help support our effort to make
sure those living without shelter have the right apparel.”

The Governor’s Volunteer award follows the March announcement that Hanes
earned a 12th United Way Spirit of North Carolina Award for exceeding
its $1.8 million 2018 fundraising goal and demonstrating outstanding
community support through United Way involvement. In addition to
monetary contributions, Hanes’ employees invested in their community
through volunteering and organizing special events with proceeds
benefitting the campaign.

The Forsyth County Governor’s Volunteer Service
Awards recognizes and honors volunteers who have made significant
contributions to the local community through volunteer service. Created
by the Office of the Governor in 1979 as a way to honor the true spirit
of volunteerism, the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards are held
