Dion-Jay Brookter Named Executive Director of Young Community Developers

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Board of Directors of Young Community Developers (YCD) announced
today the appointment of Dion-Jay Brookter as Executive Director. Mr.
Brookter assumes the top leadership position at YCD, a community-based
service provider of education, training, and employment placement
services to residents of underserved communities throughout San
Francisco. Mr. Brookter replaces Mr. Shamann Walton who held the
position for 9 years until recently being elected San Francisco’s
District 10 Supervisor. With over 7 years of management experience at
YCD, most recently as its Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Brookter
assumes leadership responsibilities of an organization with 75 staff
members managing over 25 programs.

throughout San Francisco and the Bay Area make him the ideal choice to
continue to advance the legacy and phenomenal service delivery of YCD.”

Named for the fifth year in a row by The NonProfit Times (NPT) as one of
top 50 non-profit organizations in the United States to work for, YCD
features an exceptionally skilled professional staff, thoroughly
immersed in the development and delivery of quality services to the
communities they serve. During Mr. Brookter’s tenure at YCD the
organization has consistently demonstrated significant year over year
growth in the number of customers trained and placed in employment. In
2018 YCD served 1,040 customers and secured placement for 443 through a
broad range of industry sectors to include construction, government,
health care and non-profits.

In addition to his years at YCD, Mr. Brookter has a plethora of
for-profit and non-profit experience including Executive Director of the
Southeast Community Facility in Bayview Hunters Point and management
positions with World Savings, Icon Health & Fitness, Lowes Home
Improvement and Fresno Career Development Institute. In addition, Mr.
Brookter currently serves on the San Francisco Police Commission.

Mr. Brookter holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication from
Utah State University and his Master in Business Administration from
University of Phoenix.
