Utah Virtual Academy to Celebrate Record Number of Graduates on May 30

Online School Honors Class of 2019 with In-Person Celebration

MURRAY, Utah–(BUSINESS WIRE)–lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/Classof2019?src=hash” target=”_blank”gt;#Classof2019lt;/agt;–Utah
Virtual Academy
(UTVA) will celebrate the 212 members of its Class
of 2019 at an in-person commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 30 at
Olympus High School in Holladay. An accredited, tuition-free online
public school, UTVA is available to students across the state.

Utah Senator Lincoln Fillmore will deliver remarks to the graduates and
their guests on Thursday.

“Congratulations to the Utah Virtual Academy Class of 2019,” said
Senator Fillmore. “Graduation not only celebrates all the hard work you
put into achieving your goals, but is also a celebration of the entire
community of teachers, family and friends who have supported you along
the way.”

UTVA graduates earn their high school diplomas in a personalized
learning environment. Following graduation, members of the Class of 2019
will enroll in two- and four-year colleges and universities, enter
military service, or join the full-time workforce.

Members of the class report having been accepted to or received
scholarships from a number of higher education institutions, including:
Davis Technical College, Grand Canyon University, Salt Lake Community
College, Snow College, University of Utah, Utah Valley University, and
Weber State University.

UTVA students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects and
a host of electives, and attend live virtual classes taught by
state-licensed teachers.

UTVA also offers the Destinations
Career Program
, which prepares full-time high school students for
college and careers in in-demand fields of Information Technology;
Health Sciences; and Business and Marketing. Students are introduced to
specialty trade skills in online courses, and can choose to go on to
take exams for industry-recognized credentials.

“Each member of this class has set their own path to reach this
milestone,” said Meghan Merideth, UTVA’s head of school. “Their success
represents all that is possible when students are given the opportunity
to learn in ways that meet their unique needs.”

Dr. Shaun McAlmont, President of Career Readiness Education at K12

will also speak at Thursday’s ceremony.
