AUGUSTA, Maine–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Maine Virtual Academy (MEVA), an online public-school serving K-12
students throughout the state, will celebrate the Class of 2019 at an
in-person commencement ceremony on Friday, June 7th. The ceremony will
take place at 2 pm at the Augusta Civic Center.

Many assume that attending an online public school like MEVA means that
students miss out on the ‘real’ high school experiences, but this
in-person graduation proves quite the opposite.

This year, MEVA will graduate around 60 students, with many being
accepted to colleges and universities across the country, including:
North Carolina State, University of Maine @ Orono, Beal College,
Southern New Hampshire University, Unity College, and Oregon State
University.

“MEVA’s Class of 2019 has shown the determination to master their
virtual education, which will serve them well in college and beyond,”
said Dr. Melinda Browne, head of school for MEVA. “Many of these
students have spent all four years of high school at MEVA, and they have
succeeded by utilizing our flexible learning environment to achieve
their individual goals.”

The Class of 2019 is the first class that entered as freshmen and are
graduating from MEVA. The school opened its doors in Sep. 2015.

Lana Mavor will serve as Valedictorian and plans to attend North
Carolina State with a full scholarship for their D-1 Tennis Team. Emma
Paradis will serve as Salutatorian and plans to attend University of
Maine at Farmington. Both students, as well as Dr. Browne, will be
available for media interviews.

MEVA helps students thrive by offering a personalized academic program
and daily interactions with teachers via their online live ClassConnect
sessions. MEVA students access a robust online curriculum in core
subjects, can take a host of electives, and attend live virtual classes
taught by state-licensed teachers.
